What are the different components of Blood components?? Such which are used in clinical practice are 1) whole blood, 2)
red blood cells, 3) plasma components, platelets, 4) lymphocytes and 5) granulocytes
which are derived
from whole blood or platelet rich plasma. These
components are collected from normal donors by phlebotomy or hemapheresis using
the technique of
differential centrifugation. Blood components should be
distinguished from plasma derivatives which are
fractionated from large volumes of (thousands of
litres) plasma in large industrial units e.g. for manufacturing
albumin, intravenous gamma globulin, Factor VIII etc.
