DIFFERENT METHODS OF ANDROGEN BIOSYNTHESIZE IN BODY AND CLINICAL FEATURES OF ANDROGEN EXCES IN FEMALES? WHY DOES SOME GIRLS DEVELOPS EXCESS HAIR ON FACE AND CHIN? DRUGS & MEASURES TO REDUCE BODY HAIRS IN FEMALES (HIRSUITISM) PLEASE PUT YOUR QUERIES.

The androgen metabolism depends on the enzyme present in the tissue concerned. The same androgen delivered to a tissue will yield diff androgens in diff. tissues depending on type of 17a-hydroxylase and 17, 20-lyase activities. Biosynthesis of diff androgens (total 5 in number  begins with the rate-limiting conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone by side-chain cleavage enzyme. There-after, pregnenolone undergoes a two-step conversion to the 17-ketosteroid DHE along the D-5 steroid pathways.

This conversion is accomplished by CYP17, an enzyme with both 17a-hydroxylase and 17, 20-lyase activities. In a parallel fashion, progesterone undergoes transformation to androstenedione in the D-4 steroid pathways. The metabolism of D-5 to D- intermediates is accomplished via a D-5-isomerase, 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD).. In which pathway the derivatives of Cholesterol(C-27) and later C 21 Progesterones will be metabolized to what extent depends mainly on the type of enzyme for conversion from Carbon - 21 (Progesterones) to C-19 family steroids. This also applies to degree of conversion of C-19 to C18 family of oestrogens. It is the enzyme which governs the biosynthesis of ovarian/ cutaneous / adrenal metabolism of androgens (total 5 in number). Please put questions for your queries.
