List of oral antidaibetic agents


Which antidiabetic agent members prefer in a middle aged woman with FBS of 140and PPBS of 280 mg % with normal creatinine , Lipid , LFT , normal BP &  normal eye sight (retinal evaluation done) if a diabetologists is unavailable at your town?? With which OSA(Oral anti diabetic agent) you are comfortable in prescribing??

List of oral antidiabetic: A) sulphonylureas( Amides) : like a) Glibenclamide ( glyburide). b ) gliclazide c) Glimepiride d) glipizide e) tolbutamide. All are amides and may be combined with metformin which do not however fall  in amides but in biguanide group.
Class B) Biguanides : metformin HCL
 Class C: oral antidiabetic: Alpha glucose inhibitors: like acrabose ,voglibose alone

Class D: Glucagon like peptide 1 Receptor Agonists: Exenatide .
Class E: DPP4 Inhibitors ( dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors) like linagliptin,Saxagliptins  Sitaliptins, Vidaliptins . All are amides and may be combined with metformin which do not however fall  in amides but in biguanide group.

 Class F : Thiazolidine diones ( Pioglitazones) All are amides and may be combined with metformin which do not however fall  in amides but in biguanide group.

Class G: other less commonly used amides .
Class H. Misc Chromium donator, Guar gum.
