The difgferent diseaes thagt Zinc can do

Benefits of Zn in the system?? Through its effects on cortical plasticity zinc controls the functions of the hippocampus which affects learning and memory Its deficiency can alter behavior mental function increase susceptibility to epileptic convulsions and may be associated with depression Beurosynaptic transmission is controlled by zinc which  when impaired leads to ischemic neuronal injury  and neurodegeneration Zinc metabolism is also altered in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Other ill effects of zinc deficiency :-
Cancer : Levels of zinc in serum and malignant tissues in cancer are abnormal The antioxidant  action of zinc ameliorates oxidative stress. Zinc deficiency causes pro inflammatory conditions which increases the risk of reactions of biomolecules with environment carcinogens resulting in DNA damages increasing the risk of mutation and malignant transformation .
Aging: With advancing age zinc deficiency results in a decline in immunity  neuroendocrine function and increased apoptosis leading to a chronic stress like condition . This leads  to increased  infection relapses in the elderly and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Sensory system
Loss of taste acuity is a clinical sign of zinc deficiency  it can also affect ocular auditory and olfactory systems particularly through its central role in neuronal signal transmission.
Benefits of Zinc Supplementation
Benefit of Zinc:-1) In infants
Zinc supplementation improves neurodevelopment  growth and prevents infection in infants Preventive zinc supplementation for 2 weeks in infants provided a 39% reduction of diarrhea morbidity and provided protection for 5 months. In neonates with sepsis zinc supplementation reduces mortality and promotes mental development.
Benefit of Zinc:-2 In children :- Pneumonia accounts for 15% of all childhood deaths under 5 years which is increased to 19% in developing countries The world Health organization estimates that zinc deficiency accounts for 13% of lower respiratory tract infections. A review  and meta analysis included 6 randomized controlled trials on the use of zinc supplementation in the prevention of pneumonia in children aged 2 months to 59 months and the data was analyzed using a fixed effects model.
Zinc  supplementation reduced the incidence of pneumonia by 13% ,Zinc statistically significantly reduced the prevalence of pneumonia by 41% .Subgroup analysis revealed that zinc reduced the incidence  of pneumonia defined by specific clinical criteria  by 21% but had no effect on lower  specificity pneumonia case definition
Zinc supplementation has shown beneficial effects in childhood infectious  diseases particularly diarrhea pneumonia as well as improving  growth. Zinc supplementation  resulted  in a 20% reduction of diarrhea incidence shortened th duration of illness and prevented recurrences All cause diarrhea and pneumonia hospitalizations were reduced by 59,31 and 71% respectively in children treated with zinc supplementation Diarrhea specific  mortality  was reduced by 13% and pneumonia  provided  zinc supplementation a significant improvement in height was observed
Benefit of Zinc:-No 3:-Suboptimum Zn, low  immune status  :--In adults immune function Zinc supplementation prevents respiratory disease such as common colds. It modulates cytokine profiles preventing pro inflammatory conditions and has antioxidant action
Benefit of Zinc:-No 4:-Zn Deficincy & ill effects on Skin and wounds :Zinc promotes tissue growth and prevents tissue damage by  encouraging wound healing . Its anti inflammatory effects improve skin conditions such as acne and cold sores. It is also beneficial in alopecia. Benefit of Zinc:-No 5 :: Neurological effects : It boosts mental health improves mood and prevents depression .Sensory effects : Zinc improves age related macular degeneration and night blindness improves olfactory senses and taste acuity
Benefit of Zinc:-No 6:-- Zn suppl: prevention of cancer -Cancer : The antioxidant effects of zinc prevent tissue damage and generally prevent malignancy particularly in cases of prostate cancer. bone loss : Zinc is a component of hydroxyapatite which strengthen bones. Appetite : Zinc supplementation improves appetite prevents  anorexia and reduces fatigue. In women Zinc supplementation can improve premenstrual syndrome reduce post menopausal complications Improve  fertility  and birth outcomes. It improves lactation which  is important  for the well being of both the mother and infant.
Benefit of Zinc:-No 8:- Counter attacks of  infection in infants:--Zinc reduced risk of treatment failure in infants with serious bacterial infection. Over 25% of the one million infant deaths that occur annually in India are due to serious bacterial infection Bhatnagar et al conducted a multicenter randomized double blind placebo controlled trial to estimate the efficacy  of zinc as an adjunct to antibiotics in reducing the risk of treatments failure in infants aged between 7and 120 days with  a probable  serious bacterial infection patients were administered zinc + antibiotics or only antibiotics till recovery or for a maximum of 21 days .
Benefit of Zinc:-No 9 :-Prevention of Chr diarrhoea in infants & children:- Preventing pneumonia in young children with zinc The efficacy of zinc was higher in infants with diarrhea at enrolment compared to those without  .Treatment efficacy and case fatality were not significantly different between underweight infants and those not underweight. The mean  change in serum zinc concentration from enrolment to recovery  was higher in the infants given zinc compared to placebo
Benefits of Zn suppl:-No 10:-Zinc improves bone density
Thalassemia is associated with low levels of serum zinc and 60% of thal patients have low bone mass as a result of the same. A randomized multicenter placebo controlled study was conducted to determine the effect of zinc or placebo on bone density in young patients with thal and a  low bone mass patients were treated and evaluated over 18 months . BMD improved as plasma zinc level increased by 14.7% and 15.2% respectively at 3 and 6 months in the zinc group but not in the placebo group .At the end of the study the zinc group  had significant increases in whole body bone mineral  content and areal BMD compared to placebo
Adjusted spine and hip a BMD  z scores both decreased by 0.3 standard deviation
Lateral spine BMC and a BMD increased by a mean of 10.9% and 3.8% respectively compared to a 1.3% increase and 2.1% decrease in the placebo respectively
Whole body BMC and a  BMD increased by 5.7% and 2.9% in the zinc group  respectively and these increased by 1.4% and decreased by 1% in the placebo group respectively . Zinc supplementation was well tolerated with good adherence. Zinc supplementation improves glucose parameters .The relationship of zinc and insulin has been well established and can provide a protective effect in type 1 and type 2  diabetes. However its effects in pre diabetics have not been investigated A randomized placebo  controlled trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of zinc supplementation or placebo on fasting blood glucose levels  and homeostasis model assessment parameters of beta cell function insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance in pre diabetics over a 6 months treatment period.
Benefits of Zn suppl No 11:-=Minimizes DM!! FBG and all the HOMA parameters i.e. beta cell function insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity were significantly improved with zinc supplementation over 6 months
Benefits of Zn suppl No 12: Normalizes Lipid profiles !!! At the end of treatment the ratio of triglycerides and high density lipoprotein was significantly improved in the intervention group compared to control
The lipid profile and C reactive protein levels significantly  improved in the intervention group compared to the control group .
