Ovarian cancer is the gynaecological malignancy with the highest mortality rate; it has
an overall five‐year survival
rate of 30 to 40%. This dismal prognosis is mainly the result of
non‐specific
symptoms, leading to detection at an advanced stage of disease. Despite
progress over the past decades in the field of cancer treatment in general,
only limited improvements have been made in ovarian cancer.
