Toxoplasmosis is common but fortus get seldom infected.

Where are the policemen?? I am threatened by Toxo!! Save me !!!

I understand that TOXOPLASMOSIS- is an issue with never ending debates & dilemmas including its titre and avidity reports. . The Supreme court Judge is reference lab & cord blood!! Does an astute Obstetrician will wait for cord blood tets to come his net or initiate spirmamvcin as soon as avidity titers so suggest: Choice is yours!!
There are three gatekeepers (police pickets) to protect the foetus egg. A) Mother may not transmit B) Placenta act as second Policeman  C) Thirdly not all infection reaching to foetus will be able to do bite the foetus. If that was so all pulmologist would have suffered from Kochs.
What is known then??  Mother may be infected by serum tets but that does not mean that intrauterine contents or foetus is affected by toxoplasmosis. In Toxo one can safely prescribe  Spiramycin in a pregnant woman carrying 12 weeks of gestation -who was IgG & IgM both –ve for Toxo earlier . 1) Serum IgG ,IgM Avidity, 2) reports of Cordocentesis to diagnose foetal infn if at all contemplated after written consent of couple & finally a placental biopsy & histology if there be an -à access to a regional Ref Lab about specific test will go a long way to diagnose with certainty that foetus is really infected and infected affected. Given that limitation of diagnostic modalities particularly whether a foetus is really affected or not –it will be rational to prescribe the drug if avidity tests so suggests. Nott to wait for Cordocentesis report for spirochete demonstration in foetal blood.
