Centchoman Contraindications

 

 

Q. 1 What are the list of drugs used for Fibroadenosis of breast?  What may the side effects   hepatic side effects in particular. Is Centchroman a safe drug? Is it being approved by FDA and used in other countries?? Ans;  Many drugs like 1) Gamoleinic acid 2) tamoxifen . 3) evening primrose oil and fish oil , 4) danazol , 5) bromocriptin , 6) goserelin 7) topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ,8)  diuretics, 9) vitamins, 10) antioxidants, 11) oral contraceptive pills and measures like 12) sports brassiere , 13) low fat & high carbohydrate diet ,14) caffeine free diet and  15) even just reassurance and periodical follow-up , There is a debate on the choice of treatment of fibroadenosis and mastalgia due to varying efficacy and side effects and cost of the drugs; 16) Centchroman is the latest additio J Clin Diagn Res. 2016 Oct; 10(10): PC10–PC14.

Q. 2: Chemically what is centchroman??  Centchroman (Ormeloxifene-C₃₀H₃₅NO₃) is a non-hormonal, non-steroidal oral contraceptive pill  .It is a SERM s, which acts on the estrogen receptor. Centchroman is also used as a contraceptive pill, post coital pill, as treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding anti-osteoporotic and in advanced breast cancer along with other palliative measures . It was first formulated by Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India 1967  and was included in the National Family Welfare Program in 1995 (Trade name SAHELI by Hindustan Latex Ltd. usual price Rs 2 per 30 mg tablet per day).

 Centchroman is free from side effects like nausea, vomiting, weight gain and dizziness; it does not delay return of fertility after stoppage and has only one side effect of delayed menses in less than 10% of cases.

·        Q, 3 what are its contraindications?? Contraindications:are A)  Patients who are pregnant, lactating women and who are planning to have pregnancy in near future.

·        B) who have history of breast carcinoma or family history of breast carcinoma.

·        C) Patients with polycystic ovarian diseases

·        D) CIN II & CIN III  cervical hyperplasia.

·        E) Patients diagnosed to have associated chest wall disorder and dermatological lesions.

·        F) Abnormal liver function

 

Q.5. What are the other adverse effects of centchroman??
