Unexplained subfertlity and association of Hyper homocysteanemia

Q.1: Can persistent still unrecognized Hyper Homocysteinaemia be a cause of unexplained subfertility?  Or to put in other way round , should we routinely estimate Homocysteine in subfertile men and also in women where no definite cause is located? Ans: Unexplained subfertility is a condition where both treating  doctor & couple are frustrated. But fact remains that Homocysteine is an  important adverse molecule both in  genital organs, reproductive potential  and also in metabolic events too. It acts like ROS. AS such its measurement of H.cy  becomes relevant in above mentioned clinical set up.

Homocysteine has been identified as an independent risk factor for A) atherosclerosis (As) and B) birth defective disease.

Different .

Epidemiological studies have evaluated the association between MTHFR 677C>T and 1298A>C polymorphisms and risk of C) male infertility.. The MTHFR 677T allele might be a low-penetrant risk factor for male infertility, especially in Asian population.
