Oncogenes & Tumour Suppressor Genes

Oncogenes & Tumour Suppressor Genes :--How cancer formation is governed by mutation of some specific gens—separate genes for formation of different types of cancer ? Couple of days back there was a Q. in this forum about contemplating TAH & BSO in a woman of 39 yrs whose mother had Ovarian Ca and there were some pathologies in Breasts Cancer.

:-Broad classification of genes from the point of pathogenesis of Cancer formation:- .Geneticists simply teach us  that broadly speaking there are two group of genes a) Oncogenes-which collectively or in isolation tries to cause cancer formation at any point of life. b) Tumour Suppressor Genes –a family- of friendly genes which also called as mismatch repair genes.(these gene whose primary duty is to repair any DNA errors that naturally occurs in all our life-may be million times It is this tumour suppressor gene which have kept you and myself alive and allowing all of us to chat in face Book. These friendly genes, like RAF (Rapid Action Force) immediately repair the newly synthesized abnormal DNA.

What is meant by Ovarian-Breast cancer Syndrome? The role of gene mapping after knowing loci for genes?? :Genes and Breast Cancer:- We know that of all Ovarian Cancer 10-15% are due to inherited genetic predisposition not forgetting BRCA mutant genes(located at Chr 17.q.12-13 & BRCA 2 mutation-loci is 13.q 12-13. The gene related overlain cancers are termed as Hereditary Ovarian Syndrome. Therefore an astute clinician after removing an Ov Ca –may l consult geneticist for feasibility of gene mapping and by doing so rue out possibility of having cancer amongst siblings and sisters. Do members agree on this issue??
